Jack Yanovski is Chief of the Section on Growth & Obesity and Associate Scientific Director for Translational Medicine in the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Inst of Child Health & Human Development of the National Inst of Health (NIH). Dr. Yanovski obtained his MD and PhD degrees at the Univ of Pennsylvania, completed residency training in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hosp of Philadelphia and fellowship training in Pediatric Endocrinology at NIH. In response to the growing problem of pediatric obesity in the United States, Dr. Yanovski founded the NIH’s Section on Growth & Obesity in the mid 1990’s. Dr. Yanovski has carried out many clinical studies on the evaluation and treatment of overweight and obesity in children and adults, as well as laboratory investigations of molecular etiologies of obesity. Dr. Yanovski has authored over 400 published manuscripts, has served as Chair of The Obesity Society’s annual Scientific Meeting, was a member of the expert panel that developed the 2017 Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline on Pediatric Obesity Assessment, Treatment, and Prevention, and, among other awards, has received The Obesity Society’s Bar-Or Award for Excellence in Pediatric Obesity Research, the Thomas A. Wadden Award for Distinguished Mentorship, the NIH Director’s Ruth L. Kirschstein Mentoring Award and the Public Health Service’s Outstanding Service Medal for his studies of obesity.
