Description:

Both healthcare researchers and research institutions should have a firm understanding of bioethical norms and actively engage in current ethical discussions that arise from the research they conduct. Ethical issues surrounding Phase 1 clinical pharmacology trials, artificial intelligence and machine learning in medical research, somatic genetic research and ethics supporting decentralized clinical trials are just a few of the current ethical topics being discussed in academic, industrial and federal environments. Each of these topics will identify many of the core bioethical principles researchers should be able to identify and apply when conceptualizing and designing clinical research trials and engaging in general medical research.

Goals & Objectives:

Following the completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:
  • Identify the ethical issues surrounding Phase 1 trials and somatic genetic research in humans;
  • Describe the ethical considerations of decentralized clinical trials when it comes to designing and implementing these trials to increase diversity and inclusion in medical research;
  • Analyze ethical considerations related to the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning in medical research.
