Dr. Vivaswath Ayyar, PhD is Associate Director within the Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics (CPP) Department at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines. His work focuses on applying mechanism-based PK/PD and systems modeling to inform the discovery/translational and clinical development of small molecules, biotherapeutics, and RNA-based therapies across immune-mediated, cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurodegenerative diseases. Through combined computational modeling and experimental approaches, his research has clarified the PK/PD properties of novel tissue-targeted small interfering RNA (siRNA) oligotherapeutics, provided quantitiative tools to improve PK/PD predictability across species, and advanced novel RNA-based treatment strategies for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
Viva Ayyar received dual Bachelor’s degrees in Biological Sciences and Psychology from the University at Buffalo in 2014. This was followed the Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2019, also from UB, under the mentorship of Dr. William Jusko. Dr Ayyar holds leadership positions within ASCPT, serves on the Editorial Board of the CPT:PSP journal, and has authored over 25 research articles and patents.
